Porcelain vs composite veneers: which is right for you?

Both can transform your smile — but they suit different goals, timelines and budgets. Here's how to choose.

Veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of your teeth to improve their colour, shape and alignment. The two main types — porcelain and composite — both look great, but they're made and applied differently. Understanding the trade-offs makes choosing much easier.

Composite veneers

Composite veneers are built up directly on the tooth using a tooth-coloured resin, usually in a single visit. They're more affordable, need very little tooth preparation and are easy to repair. The trade-off is that they typically last around five to seven years and can pick up stains over time.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a dental lab and bonded over two visits. They're the most lifelike and stain-resistant option and commonly last ten to fifteen years or more. They cost more and involve a little more preparation, but for a long-lasting smile makeover they're hard to beat.

So which should you choose?

If you want the longest-lasting, most natural result and it fits your budget, porcelain is usually the pick. If you'd like a more affordable change, a faster result or a reversible option, composite is a great choice. The best way to decide is a smile-design consultation, where we'll preview your new smile and recommend what suits you.
