Most travel insurance policies include emergency dental cover, but the fine print matters. In general, insurers pay for treatment of sudden, unexpected pain or injury — a broken tooth, an abscess, a lost filling that's causing pain — up to a stated limit, often between $500 and $2,000. They don't pay for routine check-ups, cosmetic work, or problems you already knew about before you travelled.

Before you come in
Some insurers require you to call their assistance line before treatment, so check your policy or app. Bring your policy number to the appointment. If your insurer wants to speak to us, that's fine — we do it regularly.
