White spots on teeth
Chalky white patches on teeth are usually early decay, fluorosis or enamel that formed unevenly — all of which have good cosmetic solutions.
What it can mean
White spots on teeth have a few common causes. Around the gumline or where braces sat, they're usually the first stage of decay — minerals leaching out of enamel, which can still be reversed. Symmetrical flecks across many teeth are often mild fluorosis from too much fluoride in childhood. Isolated bright-white or creamy patches present since the tooth came through are enamel hypomineralisation, where the enamel formed unevenly.
Treatment depends on the cause: remineralising treatments for early decay, resin infiltration (which makes the spot blend in without drilling), whitening to even out the shade, or bonding or veneers for larger patches.
