Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), Gold Coast

Free dental check-ups, cleans, fillings and more for eligible kids aged 0–17 under the government's CDBS — bulk-billed at Surfers Dental Centre with no out-of-pocket cost.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a Medicare program that gives eligible children and teenagers a capped amount of free basic dental treatment every two years — currently around $1,100 per child. It covers examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. At Surfers Dental Centre we bulk-bill CDBS, which means for covered treatment there's nothing to pay.

A child is usually eligible if they're aged 0 to 17 at any point in the calendar year, are eligible for Medicare, and their family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or another qualifying Centrelink payment. Services Australia sends a letter when a child becomes eligible; if you're not sure, call us with your child's Medicare number and we'll check for you.

What CDBS doesn't cover

Orthodontics (braces or aligners), cosmetic treatment, and anything done in hospital. If your child needs something outside the schedule, we'll tell you the cost before going ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, for eligible children. Medicare doesn't cover general dental for adults, so there's no adult bulk-billing dentist in Australia — but for kids under CDBS, we bill Medicare directly and you pay nothing for covered treatment.
